Marvin Chavez and Brek Shea scored to help FC Dallas beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 on Saturday night in Major League Soccer.

Dallas improved to 15-11-7 to match the 2006 team mark for points in a season with 52.

Chavez opened the scoring in the 35th minute with his sixth goal, and Shea added his 11th of the year in the 54th minute. Kevin Hartman had the shutout for Dallas for MLS-leading 15th victory of the season. He also earned an assist on Chavez's goal, the goalkeeper's first in his 15-year-old MLS career.

''In the first half, we were giving the ball away a little bit too easily,'' Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said. ''In the second half, I thought we did a much better job with that. I think their guys got a little tired chasing. I'm real pleased with the win, scoring two goals and getting a shutout.

''I thought it was a chippy game, but I thought we created some nice opportunities for ourselves and seemed to be playing with a little bit more confidence.''

Vancouver dropped to 6-17-10.

''I think, obviously, Dallas was a step ahead of us in a lot of aspects of the game today,'' Vancouver defender Jeb Brovsky said. ''It's very disappointing to be honest. I think we didn't come out with the same foot forward as we did in BC Place the last two games, so it's real disappointing.''
