INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Three-time defending national champion Sam Mikulak will miss the world gymnastics championships because of an ankle injury.
USA Gymnastics said Saturday that Mikulak injured the ankle while working out at the U.S. Olympic training center in Colorado this week.
Mikulak, a member of the 2014 men's team that won bronze at worlds, is expected to recover well in time for the 2016 Olympics.
Chris Brooks, an alternate on the 2012 US Olympic team, and Marvin Kimble will travel to Glasgow, Scotland, with the rest of Team USA. The final six-man group will be selected before competition begins on Oct. 26.
