Watch Rory McIlroy drain a 79-foot birdie putt

Published May. 8, 2016 12:40 p.m. ET

Rory McIlroy came to Quail Hollow as the defending champion, but two up-and-down rounds of 73 put McIlroy far behind leader Rickie Fowler. McIlroy did have one stunning highlight from his round Saturday at the par-3 17th hole.

McIlroy's tee shot to the colossal green stopped 79 feet and nine inches from the hole, and he made the longest putt of his professional career to card a miraculous birdie.
