US Open champ McDowell to play more in US
The U.S. Tour will see more of U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell in 2011.
McDowell confirmed on Wednesday he will be taking up a PGA Tour card and competing for the FedEx Cup. However, the Northern Irishman also wants to compete for the European money list as well.
''I won't be playing as many events in America as, say, Luke Donald and Justin Rose, but I am taking up my card,'' he said.
''I had one in 2006 but got injured early in that season and now I want to give it a real try.''
This year's U.S. Open marked McDowell's first and only victory since his first event on the U.S. Tour in 2001. He has six wins on the European Tour.
Meanwhile, McDowell's Ryder Cup partner Rory McIlroy said he will be cutting down his U.S. Tour appearances.
''I will only be playing 25 tournaments in all next year as against 29 on both tours this year,'' said the 21-year-old McIlroy. ''I only want to play in tournaments that really mean something and not just turning up to some events because I think I should be there.''
