United States team captain Pat Cornett has suffered a suspected broken leg during the first day's play at the Curtis Cup.

Cornett was traveling in a motorized buggy on the first hole at the Nairn Golf Club during the afternoon fourballs matches on Friday when she apparently caught her leg on the edge of a grandstand.

She was taken to Reigmore Hospital in nearby Inverness.

The US team remains in control of the 33rd edition of the event in windy, overcast and cold conditions and leads Great Britain and Ireland after winning all three morning foursomes matches.

The US team is also up in all three afternoon fourballs matches and is on course for a first opening day whitewash since the current format of the event was adopted in 1964.
