Uribe wins LPGA Tour's Brazil Cup
Colombia's Mariajo Uribe won the LPGA Tour's Brazil Cup on Sunday, closing with a 6-under 66 in rainy conditions for a one-stroke victory over Lindsey Wright in the 36-hole exhibition tournament.
Uribe birdied five of the first seven holes on the Itanhanga Golf Club course and had two more birdies and a bogey on the back nine before closing with four straight pars.
''I knew I had to go out there and take advantage of the par 5s,'' said Uribe, who birdied four of the six par 5s. ''I just went out and had a good start. I was really excited, I just tried to keep my mind in the present and tried to keep playing how I was playing.''
Wright, from Australia, had her second straight 68, including a birdie at No. 17.
Sweden's Maria Hjorth (67) was third at 7 under. First-round leader Heather Bowie Young (72) and Sarah Jane Smith (68) tied for fourth at 6 under.
Uribe, second last year, earned $108,000 from the $720,000 purse. Golf will return to the Olympics for the first time in more than 100 years at the 2016 Games in Rio.
Because of the wet conditions, the closing hole was cut from a par 4 to a par 3.
