Mason Nome is only 13 years old, but the eighth-grader from Houston has already committed to play college golf for his "dream school."
Nome, who attends The Kinkaid School, recently committed to the Texas Longhorns. Nome is Golfweek's second-ranked player in the Class of 2019.
"Mason is very excited, honored and fortunate about the opportunity," said Nome's father, Craig. "He has dreamed since he was little about someday playing golf for the University of Texas . . . and he cannot wait to be part of the future of Texas golf."
Nome won the 11-12 age group at the 2013 Callaway Junior World Championships in San Diego and then tied for 36th in the 13-14 age group this July in his first event back from a broken arm, which he suffered in May.
"He had just had his cast removed," Craig Nome said.
Nome also notched four top-10 finishes in AJGA events this year, including a runner-up finish at the AJGA Coca-Cola Junior All-Star at Sugarloaf.
Last year, Nome's friend and fellow Kinkaid School student, Cole Hammer, committed to the Longhorns as a 14-year-old.
Nome made an unofficial visit to the Longhorns' campus in Austin earlier this summer.
