Toms atop McGladrey tourney
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- David Toms shot a 4-under-par 66 Friday to take a one-stroke lead over Joe Durant in the McGladrey Classic, the second of the PGA Tour's five Fall Series events. The 43-year-old Toms has a 10-under 130 total on the Sea Island Club's Seaside Course. He has won eight of his 12 PGA Tour titles from the mid-summer to the fall, and nine in Southern venues. "Here we are again, in the South and on Bermuda grass, and it's going pretty well," said Toms, the 2001 PGA champion and a native of Monroe, La. Durant followed his opening 65 with a 66 in perfect conditions. Heath Slocum and Rich Barcelo are at 132, and Brian Gay (65) and Mathias Gronberg are at 133.
* PRATTVILLE, Ala. -- Mika Miyazato shot a 9-under 63 on Friday for a share of the second-round lead in the Navistar LPGA Classic with Na Yeon Choi and Cristie Kerr. Winless in 40 career LPGA Tour starts, the 20-year-old Miyazato had five straight birdies on the front nine and four in a row on the back nine in her bogey-free round that matched the course record on the links-style Senator layout at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Capitol Hill complex. Choi shot a 64 and Kerr had a 67 to match Miyazato at 12-under 132. Brittany Lincicome is a stroke back and Amy Yang is at 134.

* BEIJING -- Top seeds Novak Djokovic and Caroline Wozniacki powered into the China Open semifinals Friday, while second-seeded Andy Murray lost in his first tournament since the U.S. Open. Defending champion Djokovic, who is ranked No. 2, defeated Gilles Simon 6-3, 6-2. Trying for his second title of the year, Djokovic will meet American qualifier John Isner, who upset fourth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko 7-6 (4), 6-4, serving 18 aces to the Russian's one. Djokovic beat Isner in their only previous match in March, but it took the Serb more than four hours and six match points to top Isner in the Davis Cup. Murray lost to Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia 6-3, 6-2. Ljubicic will face eighth-seeded David Ferrer after the Spaniard surprised third-seeded Robin Soderling 6-2, 6-4. Wozniacki, who will take over the top ranking Monday, overcame a painful knee injury in the second set to beat former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic 7-6 (1), 6-3.
