Tiger Woods had Jordan Spieth glued to the TV last weekend
When Tiger Woods is on, everybody watches, including the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, Jordan Spieth.
The 22-year-old Texan had last weekend off while Woods and many others participated in the Wyndham Championship. In between doing his own work to prepare for the upcoming Barclays tournament, Spieth couldn’t take his eyes off Woods, who looked almost like the Tiger of old.
“I watched a lot of it, too, because of Tiger,” Spieth told Golf Digest. “I mean, it was cool to see. Honestly, I was going about my work, but when I had downtime, I turned it on. When I was eating lunch, I had it on. The interest was there, more so than normal.
“It’s interesting, because people are like, 'Well, what’s he going to do, this, or that or that?' The point that you’re asking that question and everyone wants to watch it just shows that that effect is obviously still there. Yeah, I liked watching the passion that he had, that Tiger had during the week.”
This is the power and the draw of Woods, who dominated the PGA Tour for nearly two decades, winning 14 major championships (second all time) and 79 total tournaments (second all time).
When Woods plays, people tune in to the television and flock to the course, even when he’s not at the top of his game. On weekends when Woods is playing well, the numbers swell.
Woods unfortunately stumbled during Sunday’s final round with a couple of horrid chips and ended up finishing in a tie for 10th place. Long-time tour veteran Davis Love III stole his thunder with his first win since 2008.
