The host of the Scottish Open has invested more than 70,000 pounds ($110,000) in course improvements as part of efforts to prevent a repeat of the disruption that ravaged last year's tournament, which is a warm-up event to the British Open.
Torrential rain and thunderstorms caused landslides on parts of the Castle Stuart links course during the 2011 Scottish Open, forcing organizers to reduce the event to three rounds.
The European Tour says money has been spent on implementing ''an extensive and mostly underground storm-drainage system to ensure the course is well-equipped to withstand the most severe weather conditions.''
Luke Donald will start defending his title July 12 before heading south to Royal Lytham & St. Anne's for the British Open that starts July 19.
