Greg Norman has withdrawn from the Australian PGA golf championship after only two holes because of food poisoning.
PGA of Australia said in a statement Thursday that Norman, who was playing with fellow Australians Stuart Appleby and Jake Higginbottom and started on the 10th tee, bogeyed the 10th and 11th holes before withdrawing at the Palmer Coolum resort.
''He is quite ill, we understand,'' said PGA of Australia chief executive Brian Thorburn. ''He is getting medical attention.
''I have spoken to his manager and I have spoken to the guys who saw him this morning. I think Greg was trying to soldier through, and clearly it wasn't possible.''
