One of the rounds of the year may have provided a clear frontrunner at the top of the leaderboard, but with the stakes high entering the final round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge, there’s still plenty to play for.
As had been the case on the first two days, the European Tour’s best had found the Sun City course to be an incredibly stern challenge. There was one exception, though.
Jeunghun Wang, the 21-year-old Korean, had impressed through 36 holes, but with a round of 64 on Saturday he came away with the low round of the day by a three-stroke margin.
That added up to a three-point lead for the two-time winner this season overall, but with no shortage of established winners giving chase behind him, he’ll need to play at his best to close out on Sunday.
As he tries to hang on, the likes of Louis Oosthuizen, Henrik Stenson, Alex Noren, Branden Grace and Andy Sullivan will all give chase on Sunday.
What were the key takeaways from the third day’s play at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City though? Let’s take a closer look.

Wang Takes Control
On a course that has only allowed 15 players to complete their first three rounds with an under par total, Jeunghun Wang’s 64 stood out as something truly remarkable.
Ranked 91st in the world, Wang worked his way into the European Tour’s final series of events having won the Tropheé Hassan II and the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open (co-sanctioned with the Asian Tour) in back-to-back weeks in May.
Wang could have been relatively happy with a solid first two rounds of play, but thanks to six birdies, an eagle and no bogeys, after 54 holes the 21-year-old now finds himself in perfect position for his biggest win to date.

Stenson Bounces Back
The current leader in the pursuit of the overall Race to Dubai title, all eyes have been on Henrik Stenson this week in South Africa. With a strong finish at the Nedbank, Stenson would be close to uncatchable and with a good round on Saturday he certainly helped his cause.
A round of 74 on Friday hurt the big hitting Swede’s standing in this event, but he bounced back well on day three with a 69 to match the score that he posted in the opening round.
Stenson’s seven-under total may only have him within seven of the lead, but only trailing second place by four strokes, the Open champion will be hoping to go low and be ready to capitalize on any mistakes from the leaders.

Race To Dubai Contenders In Position To Pounce
A little bit closer to the lead than Henrik Stenson at present, three of the men who currently find themselves within the Race to Dubai’s top-10 will be looking to make their own big move on Sunday.
The most obvious contender from that bunch is Alex Noren, who entered this week fifth in the standings. The three-time winner this season was the leader after 36 holes and, in spite of a third round 75, he still finds himself in a tie for fourth.
Also in the mix, hometown favorites Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace sit second and fourth respectively and will be hoping to fire the crowd up with some exciting play on Sunday.
