So much for all that “rematch” talk.
A few days after saying he’d be interested in fighting Manny Pacquiao a second time, Floyd Mayweather apparently has changed his mind.
The boxer told Showtime on Thursday that he will not grant Pacquiao a rematch because “(Pacquiao) is a sore loser and he’s a coward.”
Mayweather scored a resounding victory over Pacquiao on Saturday, winning by unanimous decision in what was billed as the “Fight of the Century.” It later was revealed that Pacquiao was fighting with a severe shoulder injury — one that will sideline him for the next nine to 12 months.
The undefeated Mayweather, whose professional record now stands at 48-0, also zinged his defeated opponent by suggesting in an interview with FightHype.com that Pacquiao fight on the undercard of one of his upcoming bouts.
“I look forward to Pacquiao fighting on the undercard,” Mayweather said. “… We could fight on pay-per-view on a doubleheader. I think we both can make some good money. He can fight somebody solid, I can fight somebody solid.”
