Local veteran Prayad Marksaeng kept the Thai flag flying high at Thana City Golf & Sports Club after he fired a final-round 64 Sunday for a 24-under-par total of 264 to win the Thailand Open.

The 47-year-old, who was runner-up here in 2011, trailed overnight leader Lucas Lee of Brazil by three strokes at the start of the day but sank nine birdies against only one bogey to beat Scott Strange of Australia by two strokes. Strange hit a 67 in the final round of the Japan Tour event.

Marksaeng became the first Thai to win the tournament since Boonchu Ruankit in 2004.

Another Australian, Nick Cullen, carded a 65 to secure third place.

Marksaeng said he had ''no pressure from start, knowing I was not among the leaders. I started very well and just kept my momentum going.''
