Simon Khan failed to secure a spot in the U.S. Open after losing a playoff in qualifying Monday, a day after winning the BMW PGA Championship for the biggest victory of his career.
Other big names to miss out included European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie, Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn.
Playing in a 36-hole qualifier at Walton Heath, the Khan finished with a 7-under total of 133 which put the Englishman in a six-way tie for the last five spots at Pebble Beach next month.
His five rivals then all birdied the opening playoff hole, but Khan missed his putt from 15 feet. He is now on the reserve list to play the U.S. Open.
James Morrison of England won the event with a 133 total, while the 11 qualifiers also included Rhys Davies of Wales, Gregory Havret of France and Rikard Karlberg of Sweden.
Khan, who was ranked 471st in the world before securing a one-shot victory at Wentworth on Sunday, said he wasn't too disappointed.
"I don't feel too bad because Sunday night was just so brilliant for me, but I was absolutely exhausted by the time of the playoff,'' Khan said. "I was just running on empty and it was only the thought of going to Pebble Beach that kept me going.''
Montgomerie shot a 70 in both rounds but ended up three shots behind the last qualifiers.
