Jordan Spieth has one regret about his year with the green jacket
One week. That's all Jordan Spieth has left with his green jacket. Come next week, it'll be back at Augusta National waiting to be sent home with this year's winner. Spieth could very well win it back and hold onto it for another 12 months, but that's far from a certainty.
It is, however, motivation for the No. 2 player in the world. Mainly because he has regrets about how infrequently he wore the green jacket and showed it off since winning it a year ago.
"I think I took a little bit for granted having the green jacket in my possession," Spieth said on Wednesday at the Shell Houston Open. "You know, I really took advantage of it to start, and then I just -- it was in my closet for the longest of times."
The green jacket isn't something you can wear everywhere you go. It's not something you want to have on while eating a rack of ribs. It is a "trophy" that you can show off in public more than others.
Spieth certainly did that, wearing it on late night shows and to a Texas football game, but the 22-year-old wishes he did more with it. And that's why he wants to win it back next week.
"I really want it again so I can take it more," he said. "Not necessarily wear it more. I would always obviously go in and look at it, and it was always there, but I feel like I could do more with it. I feel like I could take advantage of it a little bit more."
"I want to keep that same now torn garment bag that it's in that says '2015 Masters champion.' I want to keep the jacket inside that and take it away."
Spieth will have one last tuneup before the Masters at this week's Shell Houston Open. He's struggled a bit this season, but a strong outing this week could set up yet another win at Augusta. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the green jacket go back to Texas with Spieth this year.
