Jason Day's son sprints on the green to celebrate his dad's huge win

It seemed almost inevitable that Jason Day would his first Players Championship after posting magnificent rounds of 63 and 66 over the first two days while the likes of Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth missed the cut - and despite a rough third round in the brutal conditions Saturday, Day cruised to a win in the unoffficial fifth major by four shots.

Day's playing partner Hideki Matsuyama, who started the round four shots back, played his first three holes at 3-over par to take himself out of contention. A handful of golfers tied for second throughout the round at 10-under, but no one could challenge Day, who played a steady 1-under round of 71 to collect the huge $1.89 million first place prize.

As soon as Day tapped in a short par putt at the 18th, his son Dash Day raced across the green to give his dad a hug, and was closely followed by Day's wife Ellie and daughter Lucy.

Rickie Fowler hung around for the weekend and kept Dash company near the 18th green while Jason Day approached.
