According to a report from ESPN, Jason Day has agreed to a deal with Nike to wear their apparel, headwear and footwear.

Jason Day has signed a contract, worth around $10 million to wear Nike’s apparel according to a report from Darren Rovell of ESPN. Day, the world’s number one golfer will still be using TaylorMade clubs as he re-signed with the popular equipment company.

Just last month, Nike announced that they would leave the golf equipment business and attempt to promote their apparel to greater heights. So far, they’ve nailed it, by signing the best male golfer on the planet.

Day will wear Nike’s shoes and hat and will join Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods as the three biggest golfers wearing the brand. Nobody knows when the deal will officially go through, but nonetheless it’s a victory for Nike golf.

Day used Nike equipment and wore the apparel prior to 2006. So, this won’t be new for Day, plus, it’s the hat and shoes, where Nike’s strong suits lie in golf apparel.

Now that Nike has three of the biggest golfers in the game signed to a deal, it will continue to take charge in the apparel business. While Jordan Spieth has taken Under Armour by the hand and has made them soar through the sky, Nike’s deal with Day is just a reminder that the Swoosh is still there.

What makes it a great deal for them, is that Day is one of the longest drivers in the game. Like McIlroy, his driver is a launching pad off the tee. This is a sexy marketing tactic for the popular brand. Sure, he doesn’t do electrifying fist pumps like Woods in his prime, but he hits the big drives and nails the putts that matter.

Plus, Day has a mean flex when he makes huge putts. We’ve seen this both at the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits last year, and again at Baltusrol this year after hitting an incredible eagle on 18.

It was also a smart move on Day’s part to stick with TaylorMade clubs which have brought him so much success the last couple of seasons. Although Nike doesn’t have equipment anymore, some players might switch clubs to coincide with the apparel change.

Nike’s all-apparel business model is off to a blazing start. And there’s no doubt that Day will help bring them back up through the ranks if he continues on the pace he’s on.
