Jack Nicklaus says Stenson-Mickelson topped 'Duel in the Sun'

After watching Sunday's final round at Royal Troon, Nicklaus says Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson might have topped it.

In a Facebook post, Nicklaus relived some of his 1-stroke loss to Watson in 1977 at Turnberry. In that one, the third-place finisher was 10 strokes back from Nicklaus. Both Nicklaus and Watson had opened the third round in a tie for second place, one-stroke back, before taking the lead and distancing themselves from the field.

Here's the text from Nicklaus' Facebook post:

On Sunday, Mickelson and Stenson started in familiar territory -- well ahead of any potential challengers and paired together.

Stenson, who began the day with a one-shot lead, overcame a bogey on the opening hole to finish the round at 8-under -- and 20-under for the tournament.

Mickelson, who shot a 6-under 65, finished in second-place at 17-under despite playing stellar golf all day.

Plenty of their peers took notice, too.
