Henrik Stenson finally captured his first major championship at the age of 40 with one of the greatest rounds in British Open history Sunday, outdueling Phil Mickelson with a record 63 at Royal Troon to claim the Claret Jug. It was the last round that his caddie Gareth Lord will ever be caught smoking on the course.
Lord and Stenson have been together since 2012, and in their first full season went on to win two PGA Tour events and the $10,000,000 FedEx Cup. Lord, a smoker, eventually made a bet with Stenson - as soon as the Swede won a major, Lord would give up cigarettes.
Lord said that he lit a cigaratte midway through the final round at Royal Troon Sunday, and Stenson reminded him of the friendly wager.
