RICHARD GREEN could barely believe he was handed the Portugal Masters on a virtual plate.

The Aussie looked gutted bogeying the closing hole for 65 and an 18-under-par tally at Vilamoura.

But all 18 players behind him on the course faltered.

Spain's Pablo Martin, who led by three going into the last day, and Denmark's Jeppe Huldahl, who had shot 61 a day earlier, posted 75s.

A surprised Green, who had 11 birdies in his round and came from seven shots back, bagged the pounds 435,540 prize.

Italian Ryder Cup star Francesco Molinari (62), Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano (68), Sweden's Robert Karlsson (67) and Dutchman Joost Luiten (69) tied at second on 16 under par.

Green said: "I thought I'd need the best round of my life to win. It was a strange finish but good enough."

Colville Park's Steven O'Hara had a 69 for an eightway share of ninth on 14 under and now goes to the Castellon Masters in a bid to wrap up next year's Tour card.

Paul Lawrie had a 69 for 11 under and fellow Aberdonian Richie Ramsay was at nine under after a 71.
