Furyk withdraws from BMW after 6 holes with wrist injury

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) Jim Furyk called it a day at the BMW Championship when a left wrist injury forced him off the course at Conway Farms after just six holes.
Furyk, a former U.S. Open champion and the FedEx Cup champion in 2010, was 1-over par at the time. He's in ninth place in golf's playoff race and could return next week for the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta. The top 30 players in the standings after the BMW advance to the season-ending event.
Furyk had a streak of 477 straight tournaments without a withdrawal. The last time he pulled out of a tournament was at the 1995 Western Open.
PGA Championship winner Jason Day and Justin Thomas were tied for the early lead at Conway at 3 under.
