Jim Cusdin shot a 4-under 68 to grab a share of the lead after the first round of the New Zealand Open on Thursday.
The Kiwi was tied with Brad Kennedy of Australia in the first major sports event to be held in Christchurch since a Feb. 22 earthquake killed 182 people.
They were one stroke lead ahead of New Zealander Doug Holloway and Australia's Leigh McKechnie. Australian veteran Craig Parry, a two-time winner on the U.S. PGA Tour, was in a group of three another shot back.
Cusdin had eight birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey in his round, while Kennedy had five birdies and one bogey.
