Calcavecchia's winning golf fashion statement: bacon pants

Among many Americans, it is a culinary truism that everything is better with bacon. To "everything," you can now add golf and pants.

Mark Calcavecchia won his third event on the Champions Tour on Sunday, the Principal Charity Classic in Des Moines, Iowa, while wearing bacon pants.

Now, we're not talking bacon pants in the sense of Lady Gaga's meat dress -- which could be pretty uncomfortable if you like your bacon extra crispy -- but rather a pair of trousers covered with images of bacon strips.

Calcavecchia got the pants from organizers of a Des Moines bacon festival and first wore them on Friday and shot 67 in the first round.

He went back to his normal attire on Saturday, but decided he needed the bacon mojo for the final round on Sunday.

"All of a sudden I grabbed the lead and I'm like, `I've got to wear them. I'll give them one more shot,'" Calcavecchia said.
