With Thursday’s opening round at the BMW Championship suspended due to rain, many golfers were forced to finish their first rounds early Friday morning. With a bit of a jumbled up schedule, both rounds were in progress at the same time for part of the day. By sunset, however, everyone had completed the first two rounds, and Roberto Castro and Dustin Johnson had emerged as the 36-hole leaders of the penultimate event of the PGA Tour season.
Castro fired a seven-under 65, while Johnson used a tournament-low nine-under 63. Both sit at 14-under for the tournament.
Three strokes behind them sits Paul Casey, who carded a six-under 66 in the second round. He’s at 11-under for the tournament and in sole possession of third place. With a solo second at the Deutsche Bank Championship in his previous start, he’s demonstrating plenty of good form as the season winds down.
J.B. Holmes and Chris Kirk sit at 10-under for the tournament after shooting rounds of seven-under and six-under, respectively. They are tied for fourth. Right behind them is a group of four players in a tie for sixth place. Ryan Palmer, Matt Kuchar, Kevin Na and Sergio Garcia all sit at seven-under for the tournament.

There are plenty of FedEx Cup points at stake this week as the players jockey for position heading into the Tour Championship. The winner will receive 2,000 points, while solo second will receive 1,200. From there, the returns begin to diminish sharply. However, every point counts, so everyone is competing to collect as many as possible.
FedEx Cup leader Patrick Reed is sitting in a tie for 19th place, along with 15 other players who have a four-under tournament score. They are ten strokes off the lead, so if Reed is looking to add to his points lead, he has some work ahead of him. Other FedEx Cup contenders, including Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Russell Knox, are also a part of that group at four-under. They sit in second, fourth, sixth and seventh place, respectively, in the FedEx Cup standings.
No. 5 in the standings, Adam Scott, is just 912 points off the lead. He remains in contention to collect points this week, as he sits in a tie for 10th with a six-under tournament score. He’s eight strokes off the leading pace.
The third round of the BMW Championship will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with the final group of Castro, Johnson and Casey going off at 1 p.m.
