The PGA Tour of Australasia is spreading into the South Pacific, announcing Monday that a full Order of Merit tournament will be held in New Caledonia in September.
The South Pacific Open will be played Sept. 14-17 in Noumea at the Tina Golf Club, one of three 18-holes courses in New Caledonia, which is almost 2,000 kilometers (1,260 miles) northeast of Sydney.
The winner will gain a spot in the Australian Open, Australian PGA, New Zealand Open and the Australian Masters as well as a start in the majority of the remaining 2011 OneAsia events.
Professionals will play alongside local amateurs in a field of at least 70 for the first two rounds in Noumea.
