LONDON (AP) A man has died after suffering a heart attack during a 100-mile cycling race for amateurs in London.

Organizers of the RideLondon-Surrey 100 say Kris Cook, 36, collapsed from a sudden cardiac arrest during Sunday's event and died in hospital.

Cook was part of a group of 12 riders raising money for a local hospice.

In a statement released Monday, organizers expressed their condolences to Cook's family and friends, adding that his mother ''said that he had died doing something he loved.''

The exact cause of Cook's death will be established by a post-mortem.

It was the second edition of the RideLondon-Surrey 100, which begins at London's Olympic Park and finishes on The Mall, following a similar route to the road race course from the London Olympics in 2012.
