Davison, Gould headline US mountain bike team at worlds
Top American contender Lea Davison and 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Georgia Gould were two of seven elite women selected by USA Cycling to the Mountain Bike World Championships in the Czech Republic.
Davison, ranked 20th in the world, and Gould received automatic nominations on Monday for the six-day event starting June 28. Erin Huck and Chloe Woodruff also received automatic nominations.
Stephen Ettinger, the top-ranked American on the men's side at No. 37, got an automatic nomination. Howard Grotts, in his first season at the elite level, received the other automatic nomination among the group of four elite men.
Three-time Olympian Todd Wells earned an automatic nomination on the elite team but declined the spot. On Saturday, Wells defended his gold medal at the marathon national championships.
