Patrick Witt threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in Yale's 37-17 win over Cornell in the Ivy league opener for both teams on Saturday.

Witt completed 24 of 33 passes, including a 5-yard TD toss to Allen Harris on Yale's (2-0) first drive of the day and a 13-yard scoring pass in the third quarter to Cameron Sandquist. Witt, who went over the 4,000-yard career passing mark, connected with nine different receivers and Harris enjoyed a career day with eight catches for 107 yards.

Cornell (1-1), which got 271 passing yards from Jeff Mathews and 95 on the ground from Grant Gellatly, recorded a touchdown and a field goal to close the gap to 17-10 early in the third, but couldn't keep the Yale offense off the field long enough.

Big Red receiver Kurt Ondash grabbed eight passes for 104 yards in the losing effort.
