WVU vs. Oklahoma State highlight Big 12 schedule

Published Oct. 23, 2014 3:14 a.m. ET

Things to watch during a light weekend in the Big 12. Four teams are off, including Baylor and Oklahoma.

GAME OF THE WEEK: No. 22 West Virginia at Oklahoma State. The Mountaineers (5-2, 3-1) entered the Top 25 with a convincing win over then-unbeaten Baylor last weekend. Oklahoma State (5-2, 3-1) was embarrassed by TCU 42-9, ending a 58-game streak of scoring at least 20 points. Oklahoma State can't let this one get away, considering that it still has to make trips to Kansas State, Baylor and Oklahoma. West Virginia appears to be among the nation's best two-loss teams, with its losses coming against Alabama and Oklahoma.

BEST MATCHUP: Texas quarterback Tyrone Swoopes vs. Kansas State's defense. The Longhorns (3-4, 2-2) fell off the national radar with four losses in five games, which made Swoopes' slow but steady improvement go largely unnoticed. Swoopes has thrown for 655 yards in his last two games and has boosted his completion percentage up to 61 percent. The Wildcats (5-1, 3-0) have had issues stopping the pass, allowing 13 passing TDs and an average of 251 yards a game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: West Virginia's Kevin White has gained at least 100 yards receiving in seven straight games. ... Seven Big 12 teams are averaging at least 30 points, led by Baylor at 49. ... Ball security has played a big role in TCU's resurgence. The Horned Frogs have forced 17 turnovers while giving the ball away only nine times. ... Texas Tech's Davis Webb has thrown 22 TD passes, two more than he had last season.

LONG SHOT: Texas Tech at No. 10 TCU. The Red Raiders (3-4, 1-3) and Horned Frogs (5-1, 2-1) are going in opposite directions. The Red Raiders have dropped four of five, and last week's 34-21 win over woeful Kansas at home was a bit too close for comfort. TCU has emerged as a potential playoff contender behind Trevone Boykin, who has thrown 14 TD passes and rushed for 417 yards. Tech was picked one spot ahead of TCU in the preseason media poll - but the Horned Frogs are a 23-point favorite Saturday.

IMPACT PLAYER: K-State quarterback Jake Waters threw for 225 yards and pair of touchdowns and scored on a 53-yard run last week against Oklahoma. Waters might not have gaudy numbers like Boykin or Baylor's Bryce Petty, but the Wildcats are the only Big 12 team still undefeated in conference play.
