Wofford 17, Jacksonville St. 14
Eric Breitenstein ran for two touchdowns and Wofford defeated Jacksonville state 17-14 on Saturday to advance to the Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinals.
Breitenstein finished with 178 yards on 28 carries, and ran for a 3-yard TD to put the Terriers (10-2) ahead 17-8 with 9:14 left. He also scored on a 36-yarder in the first quarter.
Breitenstein's biggest run of the game came on 48-yard burst, setting up Christian Reed's 28-yard field goal to put Wofford up 10-3 just before halftime.
Jacksonville State then cut it to 10-5 with a third-quarter safety, and Griffin Thomas' 35-yard field made it 10-8 later in the quarter. Thomas also made a 40-yard field in the second quarter.
The Gamecocks (9-3) brought it to 17-14 on Marques Ivory's 6-yard pass to Alan Bonner with 3:51 left.
Wofford will play the winner Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals.
