What Mauk's suspension means for Lock and Missouri

It was announced Monday by Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel that Maty Mauk's suspension from last week will continue. As a result, he will not be available for the contest versus Florida this weekend.

In Mauk's absence, true freshman Drew Lock led the Tigers to a 24-10 victory over South Carolina. The freshman signal-caller was steady and efficient in his first collegiate start, going 21-of-28 for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

It isn't yet known as to when Mauk will be back on the team...if at all. Pinkel declined to speak about the specifics in regards to Mauk's case.

Should Mauk come back this year, will he automatically regain his starting spot?

The junior signal-caller entered this year as one of the most productive players in the SEC at the position. Mauk demonstrates moxie and energy within his play, and has led Missouri to some big victories. With that said, his off-the-field issues have been a cause for concern. Mauk also has struggled with consistency in the passing game.

Would Pinkel roll with the Lock the rest of the way, as a means to further his development? Lock has a higher completion percentage (67.9) and quarterback rating (140.0) when compared to Mauk.

Pinkel could ultimately have an eye to the future with a potential decision between the two quarterbacks.
