Shaun McClain's 46-yard field goal with 3:43 left in the game proved to be the difference as Weber State held off Southern Utah 24-22 for its first victory of the season on Saturday.
Mike Hoke rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown and passed for 206 yards and a TD for Weber State (1-7, 1-4 Big Sky).
Brad Sorensen threw two scoring passes in the fourth quarter for Southern Utah (3-5, 2-3), the last a 34-yarder to Fatu Moala with 54 seconds remaining. But Sorensen's pass for the 2-point conversion fell incomplete.
Sorensen completed 33 of 47 passes for 320 yards and the two TDs, and was sacked three times.
