WATCH: USC player surprises his mom with unannounced trip home for Christmas

Unlike many other students, some college football players don’t get the chance to head home for an extended period of time for the holidays. Those on bowl teams spend the weeks leading up to Christmas practicing, traveling and playing in those games.
USC plays in San Diego on Dec. 30 in the Holiday Bowl against Wisconsin, but tight end Connor Spears was able to make a trip home to South Dakota to surprise his mother anyway for Christmas.
