It wasn't pretty, but it was effective.

The 9-7 victory over Vanderbilt clinched the SEC East Division for the Florida Gators. They now get to sit back and await the winner of the SEC West before traveling to Atlanta for the conference title game on Dec. 5.

Head coach Jim McElwain addressed the media on Monday through his weekly press conference. He spoke about the general musings surrounding the team, and offered praise to his group right off the bat.

"[I'm] really excited about where our football team's at and how they've gotten here, and what they've accomplished so far," said McElwain. "My hat's off to them."

It was a struggle on the offensive side of the ball versus Vanderbilt. The Commodores' defensive line won the collective battle up front against the Gators' offensive line. Running holes were minimized, and quarterback Treon Harris didn't always have a clean pocket to make throws from.

Perhaps more than anything, the turnovers were a big issue. Florida turned the ball over four times in this contest. Against better competition (and teams with adequate offenses), the Gators won't be able to survive this sort of carelessness when it comes to possessing the football. Opposing squads will capitalize on these mistakes.

McElwain admitted that the team will need improvement in this category, but also opted for some positivity.

"To win a game with four turnovers, that stuff doesn't happen," said McElwain. "You've got to have some resolve."

One would think this game could act as a learning experience for the Gators as they head towards the latter portion of their schedule.
