Washington coach speaks for first time since Ukwuachu sentencing
SEATTLE -- Washington coach Chris Petersen has declined to expand on his statement from last week regarding the transfer of Sam Ukwuachu from Boise State to Baylor when Petersen was the Broncos' head coach.
Petersen spoke with reporters Tuesday for the first time since Ukwuachu was found guilty on sexual assault charges. The 22-year-old Ukwuachu was sentenced to six months in jail and put on 10 years of probation Friday in Texas for sexually assaulting a former Baylor women's soccer player last year.
Petersen declined to get into further details about conversations he had with Baylor coach Art Briles when Ukwuachu transferred from Boise State to Baylor after he was dismissed from the Broncos' program.
Petersen stood by the statement he released last week where he said he "thoroughly apprised Coach Briles of the circumstances surrounding Sam's disciplinary record and dismissal."
