Chris Whitney ran for the first of three straight touchdowns by Villanova in a 28-7 win on Saturday in a meeting of the last two Football Championship Subdivision champions.

Whitney, who had 116 yards on 11 carries, ran for a 45-yard touchdown with 5:46 left in the first quarter. The Wildcats (6-2, 4-1 Colonial Athletic Association) scored another less than four minutes later on Whitney's 5-yard pass to Norman White, and then turned an interception into a 21-0 lead just before halftime.

James Pitts intercepted Richmond's Montell White on the Spiders' 41, and two plays later Aaron Ball ran for a 27-yard touchdown.

Richmond (4-4, 2-3), which had 231 yards of total offense, rushed for just 59 yards. Jovan Smith had 41 yards on 16 carries for the Spiders.

Kendall Gaskins scored on a 1-yard run late in the third for Richmond's lone score.
