Video earns Chicago elementary school class a trip to Auburn
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) The Auburn Tigers will be hosting some really young prospects at their home opener.
A second-grade class from Schmid Elementary School on the South Side of Chicago arrived in town Thursday afternoon and is scheduled to stick around through Saturday's game with Jacksonville State. The kids did a school project on Auburn University last spring that included a nearly 8-minute video.
The video has drawn nearly 27,000 views on YouTube and caught the attention of Auburn, too. Athletic director Jay Jacobs, former Tigers star Bo Jackson - who lives outside Chicago - and mascot Aubie visited the kids over the summer. Auburn also made a response video.
Jacobs says whether they go to Auburn doesn't matter. He says the school just wants to show them a college education is in their grasp.
