Vanderbilt rape case delayed until January
The trial of two former Vanderbilt football players accused of raping a student in a campus dorm has been delayed because one of the defense attorneys needs surgery.
Jury selection began Monday with a prosecutor warning prospective jurors the trial would contain sexually graphic videos and photos.
A spokeswoman for the Davidson County district attorney general's office said prospective jurors are being released and the trial has been moved to January.
Four former Vandy football players are accused in the rape, but only two were going to be tried this week.
Brandon Vandenburg and Cory Batey are each charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery. Vandenburg also faces additional charges of tampering with evidence and unlawful photography.
