Gabe Ali-El caught a 9-yard pass from Eric Hoffman with 3:09 left as Valparaiso broke a 29-game losing streak with its first victory of the season, a 34-31 decision over Campbell on Saturday.

The Crusaders' last victory had come Sept. 12, 2009, at Concordia, Wis. The win also was the first under second-year coach Dale Carlson, who started 0-20.

Hoffman completed 30 of 40 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns for the Crusaders (1-9, 1-6 Pioneer). He also connected for TD passes of 14 yards to Sean McCarty, 3 yards to Tanner Kuramata and 14 yards to Tim Bennett. In addition, Ali-El ran 22 yards for a touchdown.

Carl Smith led the Camels (6-4, 5-3) with 20 carries for 136 yards and two touchdowns. C.J. Oates ran for 104 yards and a score, and Jordan Cramer scored on a 1-yard run.

The loss ended Campbell's school-record five-game winning streak.
