Utah State extends contract of coach Matt Wells
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Matt Wells and Utah State have agreed on a contract extension to keep the coach at the university through the 2019 season.
The school announced the deal Friday.
Contract details were not immediately available, but the deal includes salary increases for assistants.
The Aggies have gone 19-9 in two years under Wells. The wins are the most in school history by a coach in his first two seasons. Utah State has also gone 13-3 in the Mountain West Conference under Wells.
Interim athletic director Jana Doggett says it was extremely important to keep Wells and his staff at the university long-term.
Wells was honored as Mountain West coach of the year in 2013 after going 9-5. Last year's 10-4 record was just the second 10-win season in school history.
