Southern California will construct a $70 million athletics building with new offices and training facilities for the football team.

New athletic director Pat Haden announced the school's plans Saturday before the No. 24 Trojans took on top-ranked Oregon.

Construction on the two-story, 110,000-square foot building will begin in January, finishing in about 18 months. Haden and new USC president Max Nikias say they've already begun fundraising efforts.

The building will fill a long-overdue need for the Trojans, whose facilities at famed Heritage Hall have lagged behind the nation's top college football programs.
