USC interim coach begins 'player development' workouts during practice

USC interim head coach Clay Helton has implemented some changes since taking over leadership of the program.

According to a report in the LA Times, Helton has implemented 45-minute workouts for "player development" on Monday -- which is a day usually spent away from the field. Starters and upperclassmen use the weight room; redshirt players and backups get more on-field instruction.

“One of the things that I’ve always felt like gets lost sometimes is the guys that maybe are redshirting or the guys that you look up and aren’t getting as many reps,” said Helton, in the report. “We really want to develop not only our older kids, but it is our job to develop every kid on the football team.”
