USC head coach Clay Helton wants RB Justin Davis to be his closer
As USC attempted to close out UCLA on Saturday at the Coliseum, then interim head coach Clay Helton had a simple message for running back Justin Davis: End the game.
"He told me, 'This is your job, to end the game,'" Davis recounted, per the Los Angeles Times.
The junior tailback carried the ball 15 times in the final 13 minutes of the game, gained 100 yards in that timespan as the Trojans finished off UCLA 40-21.
As the Trojans prepare for their first Pac-12 title game on Saturday against Stanford, Davis knows he will once again be counted on to physically dominate in the fourth quarter.
"We know what Stanford's going to bring, and we've been playing that kind of football — physical and hard-nosed — and I think it will be a great matchup," Davis said.
