Three-star cornerback Wylan Free, from Carson, announced his de-commitment from USC’s 2017 recruiting class Thursday afternoon.

For the second time in under a week, USC has lost a commit from the class of 2017.

Thursday it was three-star cornerback Wylan Free who backed off his pledge to the Trojans, posting a note on Twitter to break the news.

“First I want to thank you for considering me to be a part of the Trojan family. University of Southern California is a very prestigious school and anyone would be honored to attend,” Free wrote. “Unfortunately after further considering and talking it over with my family, I have deiced to respectfully announce my decommit from USC, and open up my recruiting process again.”

Free had committed to USC at the end of July, shortly after being offered by the Trojans. He holds offers from Utah and Hawai’i.

Cornerback is not a major area of concern for USC in this class. Though Adoree’ Jackson may depart for the NFL draft, there are no other cornerbacks expected to leave from the current squad.

On Monday, linebacker Daniel Green also de-committed from the Trojans. With those two losses, USC now has 14 commits for the 2017 cycle.

In the grand scheme of things, neither Free nor Green’s de-commitments come as a major shock. With the 2016 regular season wrapped up and recruiting heating up, rearranging of the 2017 class is to be expected, especially considering the added stability for the program thanks to USC’s strong finish to the year.
