USC becoming Quarterback-U again?

Published May. 6, 2015 3:05 p.m. ET

Matt Fink, a four-star quarterback, just committed to USC. If he ends up signing with the Trojans in February, Fink will be among eight quarterbacks heading into the 2016 season.

Cody Kessler will be gone at the end of the season, but other quarterbacks have been patiently waiting for their turn, most notably Max Browne.

Nevertheless, USC's recent strategy to stockpile quarterbacks sure is reminiscent to the Trojans' glory days under Pete Carroll, writes Bleacher Report's Tyler Donohue.

"Fink and 4-star counterparts (Ricky) Town and (Sam) Darnold could ultimately never take a snap as starters at USC, which takes us back to a time last decade when the program's quarterback was essentially college football royalty and a first-round NFL pick waiting to happen," writes Donohue. He continues: "Under the guidance of then-head coach Pete Carroll, that torch was passed from Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer to Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart to first-team Pac-12 performer John David Boty to Rose Bowl MVP Mark Sanchez to heralded true freshman Matt Barkley."
