WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) University of Maine running back Zedric Joseph has been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in Florida.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said in a press release Wednesday that Joseph was being held in Richmond County, Ga., on a Palm Beach County warrant. It was unknown if Joseph has an attorney.

Deputies say they responded to a stabbing Friday in West Palm Beach. They found a woman, 23-year-old Vashti Laurore, stabbed through the hand and a man, 23-year-old Ricardy Chery, stabbed several times. Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where Chery died. Laurore was treated and released. Authorities weren't saying what prompted the attack.

University of Maine officials say Joseph was suspended from the school Saturday, after they learned of the stabbing. The 23-year-old South Florida native is a senior majoring in child development and family relations.
