UConn football coach interviews to start Sunday

Connecticut athletic director Warde Manuel says face-to-face interviews for a new football coach will begin Sunday.

Manuel spoke before UConn's season finale against Memphis. He says UConn is not a ''Nick Saban situation,'' but he doesn't believe money will be an issue in the hiring.

Manuel says the job has attracted an impressive pool of candidates, though he declined to comment on who's in the running.

Manuel would not say whether interim coach T.J. Weist, who took over after the firing of Paul Pasqualoni, would get an interview. However, he says he's impressed by the job Weist has done. UConn came into Saturday having won its last two games after going 0-9.

Manuel says he's already gotten input from important boosters and 25 former UConn players.
