UCLA Football: Jim Mora Says There Will Be Changes to the Run Game
After another game in which the UCLA Football team failed to reach the century mark running the ball, Head Coach Jim Mora addressed the media to confirm that changes will be made in the running game.
The run game is not good. It is down right horrible. The UCLA Football team is currently the 126th best rushing team in the FBS. That is out of 128 teams.
UCLA is averaging 91.1 yards per game and only gaining 2.8 yards per rush. So yeah, things are not as good as they should be.
Jim Mora knows this and he is not happy. After last week’s loss to Arizona State, Mora called the offense “putrid”. After their loss to Washington State, Mora told local Los Angeles radio station AM570 that the run game was “embarrassing”.

On Monday, Mora talked about what was needed going forward, stating that changes would be made. Because of discretion, Mora did not go into what those changes would be, but addressed the fact that the run game is not where it needs to be.
UCLA seems to have three big flaws right now: (1) they cannot run the ball, (2) the offensive line is suspect and (3) several receivers are not hanging on to passes.
But there is some good. Despite a rough year, QB Josh Rosen is doing a fine job in the passing game. Rosen remains the third best QB in the conference in passing yards per game with 319.2, so passing is not the problem.
Even backup Mike Fafaul had a decent game throwing for 258 yards and three touchdowns. Ir is receiving that is the issue, which we will get into later.

Right now the problem seems to start with the offensive line which is affecting the running game. So it stands to reason that whatever changes are made will start up front. Hopefully that will help the run game to get in gear. Hopefully.
