Tulane overcomes slow start to beat Maine 38-7

NEW ORLEANS (AP) Tanner Lee threw for 277 yards and a touchdown to lead Tulane past Maine 38-7 Saturday night.

Maine struck first, going 75 yards in seven plays on its opening possession, capped by a 5-yard Dan Collins run for a 7-0 lead. Tulane's Andrew DiRocco kicked a 23-yard field goal to make the score 7-3 before the end of the first quarter.

Lazedrick Thompson's 1-yard plunge early in the second quarter gave Tulane (1-2) the lead for good. Sherman Badie scored on a 56-yard run four minutes later, and Lee hit Teddy Veal for a 39-yard score two minutes later to make it 24-7 going into halftime.

Dontrell Hilliard had eight carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns. His 85-yard touchdown run closed the scoring.

Collins led Maine (0-2) with 131 yards passing and was intercepted twice. Micah Wright caught eight passes for 107 yards.
